Here at Fuller Farms, we like to find natural alternatives in our home and on our farm. Most udder wipes that you find at the store contain harsh chemicals that we don’t like to put on our animals or risk having in our milk. That is why we decided to make our own udder wipes to use before milking. These udder wipes are extremely easy to make and are very cost efficient.
To make our udder wipes, you only need 4 things:
- Warm water
- Castile Soap (My favorite is linked here)
- Rags – I grabbed an old towel and cut it into small rags to use
- Quart size Mason Jar
- Optional: Add in a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil for additional anti-bacterial properties
To Use: I like to grab a mason jar and fill it with a 1/8 of a cup of Castile Soap and the rest of the way with water, put a lid on it, and give it a little shake. Each morning I will grab my rag, shake the udder wash and then dip my rag into the jar. I then wipe down the udder and teats to get any loose dirt (or anything else they could’ve laid in) off before milking.
I am all about different options, so another option is to store the udder wash and rags in a container or Ziplock bag so that they are ready to go when you are! Or if you want another option, you can store the solution in a spray bottle. Just spray and wipe 🙂
